  • CHIEF ROBERT HERMAN

    Biography


    Chief Rob Herman was hired not only as our first Police Officer but additionally as our Training Coordinator. On December 4, 2018 Rob was promoted to Chief of Police. Rob was born, raised and has worked in Middletown. After graduating from Eastern High School, he attended Eastern Kentucky University where he studied Fire and Safety Engineering and Police Administration. After college he worked for the Middletown Fire Protection District as a Fire Fighter/Fire Inspector/EMT and then moved on to the Jefferson County Police. Officer Herman started his 22- year career with LMPD in Patrol of the 7th Division where his beat included residential, businesses such as Ford and parts of UPS, the airport, etc. From there he was promoted to Street Detective where he primarily worked with Narcotics Investigations. Soon after the tragedy of 9/11, LMPD sent Rob to team up with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force where they worked International and Domestic Terrorism cases. The final years of his career were spent in conducting Firearms Training for new Police Recruits and In-Service classes for Veteran Officers until retirement in Dec. 2017.

    Biography


    Scott Beck was born and raised in Louisville and graduated from Moore High School. His Law Enforcement career began in 1996 when he was hired by the Jefferson County Corrections Department (JCCD) as a Corrections Officer. There he served in the Security Units of the jail and was a member of the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT). He joined the former Jefferson County Police Department (JCPD) in 2000, which later merged into the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), and was assigned to Adam District/Eighth Division. Scott served as a Patrolman, Flex Detective and CID Detective while in the Eighth Division. He was also a member of the Special Response Team (SRT) and Bicycle Response Team (BRT). His training and certifications include the Police Mountain Bike Course, ATV Course, Patrol Rifle, Crisis Intervention Team, RADAR, Alcohol Beverage Control and the FTO/PTO Course. Scott retired from LMPD in 2019 before joining the Middletown Police Department that same year.

  • SGT. DETECTIVE PAT BASS

    Biography


    Pat Bass was born in Mt. Washington Kentucky and graduated from Bullitt East High School. He attended Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville, where he graduated with a degree in Justice Administration.



    Pat started his police career in 1999 when he was hired by the Louisville Police Department. During his career with the Louisville Police and Louisville Metro Police he served in many units and divisions. In 2006 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served the 4th Division and 8th Division. Pat retired from LMPD in 2019 where he was the Sergeant for the 8th Division Detectives.

    Biography


    Scott Beck was born and raised in Louisville and graduated from Moore High School. TRAFFIC UNIT

  • OFFICER KENNETH CHRISTIAN

    Biography


    Kenneth Christian has lived in Louisville, KY since the age of four. Raised in Jeffersontown and a graduate of Jeffersontown High School, he then attended Jefferson Community College.



    Kenneth was hired with the Jefferson County Police Department in 1994 serving as a police cadet until attending the basic recruit academy in 1995. He then served in Charlie District in 1996 after completing training. Kenneth served in Charlie District as a patrol and bike officer, and later as a Traffic officer.


    After merger, Kenneth worked in the 6th Division as a Traffic officer until joining the Traffic Unit in 2011. Kenneth served on a variety of teams, boards, the Honor Guard Unit and also as an instructor teaching collision for patrol to new recruits at the training unit. While in the Traffic Unit, Kenneth was also a collision reconstructionist and DOT certified officer. Kenneth retired from LMPD in 2016.



    After retirement, Kenneth joined the Indiana University Police Department at the Southeast Campus in New Albany, IN in 2017. Later that year, Kenneth would return to Kentucky to work for the Shelbyville Police Department in Shelby County. Kenneth returned to LMPD in the summer of 2018 returning to the 6th Division.

1ST PLATOON

  • SERGEANT BILL SHINGLETON

    Biography


    Bill Shingleton began his law enforcement career in 1997 as a sworn deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and worked in the Court Security Unit, Warrant/EPO Unit and Process Unit. He joined the former Jefferson County Police Department (JCPD) in 2002, which later merged into the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), and was assigned to Adam District/Eighth Division.



    He began his service in the Eighth Division as a patrol officer and was later promoted to detective in 2006. While in the Eighth Division, Bill helped spearhead different policing initiatives involving: highway safety, gang suppression, and burglary reduction. He also served as an active member of the Hostage Negotiations Team (HNT) from 2007 through 2011.



    In 2012, he was selected to join LMPD’s Homicide Unit where he served as a homicide detective and investigated the deaths of persons under criminal or suspicious nature, suicides, critical assaults, and cases involving missing persons.



    Bill was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2016 and his first assignment was with LMPD’s Third Division; but he eventually transitioned back to work with the Eighth Division. As a platoon sergeant in the Eighth Division he supervised the patrol officers covering police beats 1, 3, and 4 –the latter of which encompassed the city boundaries of Middletown.



    Over the course of his career he has received numerous commendations for his services to the community. Additionally, he achieved certification from the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) as both an Advanced Law Enforcement Officer (2010), and as an Advanced Law Enforcement Investigator in (2011).



    Bill retired from LMPD and returned to work with JCSO in 2017 before joining the Middletown Police Department (MPD) in 2019. He is a second generation police officer following his uncle who retired from the former Louisville Police Department (LPD) in 1989.

  • SERGEANT ERIC KEMPER

    Biography


    Eric Kemper was born and raised in Louisville’s south end and graduated from St. Xavier High School. His Law Enforcement career began in 1992 when he was hired by the Jefferson County Police Department as a cadet.


    After graduating from the Police Academy, Eric as assigned to the Adam District, which included the east end of Jefferson County. Eric transferred to Charlie District, which included the areas of Fairdale and Okolona. Eric worked in the Police Property Room for several years before being transferred to the LMPD 7th Division. Eric retired from LMPD in 2014.


    Eric was hired by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office in 2015 and left there to pursue a career with the Middletown Police Department.

  • OFFICER CHAD LEDINGTON

    Biography


    Officer Ledington began his professional career in public service in 1999 as an EMT for the Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services. He served on JCEMS' Disaster Response team (DRT) as a hazardous materials technician and assisted in mitigating multiple hazardous incidents within Jefferson County. He also served on the JCEMS Honor Guard. In 2002, Officer Ledington became a professional fire fighter and served as a Shift Captain for the Fern Creek Fire Department. Officer Ledington was a fire instructor and served on the Jefferson County Hazardous Materials Team and Trench Rescue Team.



    Then, in 2005, Officer Ledington became a police officer for the City of Shepherdsville where he received the Medal of Valor and several Meritorious Unit Citation Awards. He also received the Governor's DUI Enforcement Award. The Louisville Metro Police Department hired Officer Ledington in 2005 where he worked in the 8 th Division and the 7th Division as a patrol officer and later became a Traffic Car in the 7th Division. Officer Ledington became a Kentucky Law Enforcement Council Police Instructor and taught at the LMPD Police Academy for approximately 2 years.


     


    While on LMPD, Officer Ledington served on the Hazardous Incident Response Team (HIRT) as a hazardous materials and radiological technician. In 2019 Officer Ledington became a Kentucky Colonel and retired from LMPD with a total of 20 years in public service. Officer Ledington decided to continue in public service and was hired by the Middletown Police Department in 2020.

2ND PLATOON

  • SERGEANT DALE MCCORMACK

    Biography


    Dale McCormack grew up in the Middletown area. He attended Middletown Elementary School and graduated from Eastern High School.


    He was a member of the Middletown Fire Department for several years before pursuing a career in law enforcement. Dale entered law enforcement in 1984 as a dispatcher for the Anchorage Police Department. From there he was hired by the Louisville Police Department and worked in the 2nd and 3rd districts.


    After the merger of Louisville and Jefferson County Dale worked in the new 3rd Division of the Louisville Metro Police.


    Dale retired on October 1, 2017 and moved to Charleston, South Carolina and was hired by the Charleston Police Department where he worked as an NCIC Duty Officer until being hired by the Middletown Police Department in February 2020.

  • OFFICER HOLLY ROGERS

    Biography


    Holly Rogers was born and raised in Louisville, KY and graduated from Moore High School.  Officer Rogers received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville in 1996.  Her Law Enforcement career began in 1997, when she was hired as a cadet with the Jefferson County Police Department and became a sworn Police Officer April 1999. She was assigned to Baker District and then the 7th Division after merger.  In 2005, Officer Rogers became a division detective in the 7th Division.  She transferred to the Homicide Unit in July 2009 and remained until she was promoted to sergeant in January 2011 and transferred to the 3rd Division as a patrol sergeant.  In September 2012, Officer Rogers transferred to the newly created Crime Information Center where she supervised crime analyst and detectives.  In October of 2017, she transferred to the Court Liaison office, where she remained until retiring on August 1, 2020.  Officer Rogers then joined the Middletown Police Department on October 12, 2020.

  • LIEUTENANT STEVE KAUFLING

    Biography


    Steve Kaufling was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky.  He attended Trinity High School followed by the University of Louisville. He began working for the Louisville Police Department in 1996. 


    Sergeant Kaufling held numerous positions within the Louisville Metro Police Department.  These positions included being assigned as a patrol officer, a narcotics detective, and a division detective in the old LPD 4th District. In 2006, he was promoted to Sergeant and held positions supervising a patrol platoon, a division narcotics unit, and a division detective unit in the LMPD 4th Division. In 2012, he was promoted to Lieutenant and held positions as the commander of a patrol platoon in 1st and 4th Divisions. In 2016, he became part of the Major Crimes Division where he was the commander of the LMPD Robbery Unit and the Financial Crimes Unit. Sgt. Kaufling was also a member of the LMPD SWAT Team for approximately eight years. He retired from LMPD in August of 2020 with 24 years of service and joined the Middletown Police Department on October 12, 2020.

  • OFFICER GLENN SIMPSON

    Biography


    Glenn Simpson served the Louisville Metro Police Department and one of its predecessors (the Louisville Division of Police) for 27 years.  Most of this time was spent as a generalist but 5 years were dedicated to the investigation of physical abuse and sexual assaults in environments geared toward both adult and child victims.  He spent 20 years as a commanding officer and has supervised civilians, patrolmen, sergeants and detectives, in both urban and suburban settings.  Some of the areas he has worked in include: the west end, the Highlands, Old Louisville, Smoketown, Churchill Downs, Iroquois, Newburg, Norfolk, and Hikes Point.

3RD PLATOON

  • OFFICER NATHAN BENGE

    Biography


    Nathan Benge was raised in a small town in Indiana. After graduating from high school, he

    served in the U.S. Army for four years with 1/25 th SBCT and was stationed at Fort Wainwright,

    AK. Nathan completed a tour of duty in Iraq, and afterwards, attended Kansas State

    University. He began his police career in 2015 with Louisville Metro Police Department and

    was assigned to the 2 nd division. Nathan is a resident of Middletown, KY.


  • OFFICER ZACH PRICHARD

    Biography


    Officer Zach Prichard graduated from Lindsey Wilson College, where he played collegiate

    baseball. Zach started his career in law enforcement with Louisville Metro Police Department in 2014. He was a member of the SRT unit and worked in the 1 st division, Portland

    neighborhood of Louisville. Officer Prichard was an Explosive Detection K-9 Handler for two

    years before joining the Middletown Police Department. He is the proud father of two boys.


  • OFFICER RICKEY GUFFEY

    Biography


    Officer Rickey Guffey began his law enforcement career with Jefferson County Department of

    Corrections in 2002. In 2008, he was hired by the Shively Police Department as a patrol officer. He

    assisted the department as a Police Training Officer (PTO) and trained multiple new recruits. In 2012,

    Guffey was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division as a detective investigating major crimes,

    until he retired from the Shively Police Department in January of 2023.

    Officer Guffey joined the Middletown Police Department in March of 2023.
